I’m drawn to the north and intrigued by the trees I find during my hikes through the Bruce Trail. There is a wonderful network of roots that nurture Cedar trees with incredible endurance, silent strength and the ability to survive in extreme conditions. They reflect the spirit of the land and the Canadian people that dig deep to live here. This display of strength captured my attention, filled my palette and energized my desire to paint. Each brushstroke is a celebration in expressive movement.
Nature appears simple. A seedling sprouts, grows and thrives. Take a moment; look beyond the surface – it truly is much more complex.
36” x 48” acrylic on canvas
Diptych capture of a cedar trees, their roots and the relationship with the Canadian terrain. The river and weather pounds on the roots, flushing away the soil and yet they not only survive – they thrive. A bit of forest magic.
48" x 66" diptych acrylic on canvas $4,700
I am drawn to the north. There is a wisdom within the forest, a sharing of information and strengths between the roots could explain how Cedar trees survive so close to the edge of the cliffs.
48" x 36" acrylic on canvas $2,500
Celebrating the strength that silently matures through perseverance.
40" x 30" acrylic on canvas $1,800
The path I follow leads through cedars so high that one might fall over to see the upper branches. There is one ancient cedar tree that rooted over the rocks that is so much shorter. She is twisted, gnarled and her branches reach well over the wall into the gorge overlooking the falls. She is beautiful, unique and I call her Sorceress. Just had to paint her as one of the Guardians of the Forest.
48" x 84" triptych acrylic on canvas $6,000
Twists and turns for survival silently reveals strength. Much to be admired within the Canadian landscape.
36" x 36" acrylic on canvas $1,900
Nature often reveals truths. This brilliant, healthy cedar tree lives on the edge at Rattlesnake Point with so very little visible nourishment to grow on. It reflects so many lives. We bravely smile through all the stresses we endure and dig deep to survive.
30" x 15" acrylic on canvas. $600
Nature often displays great tolerance and strength within extreme conditions. As a society – we have much to learn.
48" x 36" acrylic on canvas $2,500
On a good day, I lose myself within a painting and move through pure intuition. I've discovered that the roots outlined the shape of a heart in. Through my eyes – that's a bit of soul magic.

It’s a striking quote for a striking bird. Adopting this quote by Bill Blass to name this painting – “When In Doubt Wear Red” 12 inches x 12 inches. Love the patterns and the character of this male Downy Woodpecker who flies into our garden often. Almost fashionable in a classic red & black . He seems to accepted our presence; however I seriously doubt that he knows we are the source of the delicious treat outside our window.
I have three grown children and have embraced the morning person title. Enjoy opening the day with a brilliant sunrise with a good cup of tea. Seeing and hearing the morning bird chatter is just a bonus. 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas $300
The playful fox have eyes adapted for night vision, are light on their feet, have acute hearing and are known for their bushy tails . 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas $300
Whether it’s the plants or animals love the colours that Autumn brings to the garden. Is it still important to past the summer months? After all it’s no longer blistering hot. So is there value in providing a water spot for birds. Absolutely. We keep our bird bath active as long as possible and these Goldfinches are taking advantage of a warm Autumn day for a delightful bath. They open their entire body up to shimmy–shake themselves to dive under the tiniest bit of water. Birds instinctively understand that in order to keep their feathers in good condition it is necessary for them to bathe, even in the cooler temperatures. Clean feather provide greater insulation compared to matted feathers.
12" x 12" acrylic on canvas $300
Surprisingly agile and naturally curious the Grizzly bear reflects pure power and strength. He pushes forward with courage along his solitary own path at his own pace. They can be both fierce and playful. Their presence evokes respect and admiration. It is said that Odin would take the image of Bear with visiting earth.

Winters are active months at the feeder. The agile nuthatch is an energetic bird that cashes food. They have been known to store hundreds of seeds in tree crevasses, covering it with bark chips or lichen and retrieving for a later date.

The wolf is a powerful, intelligent creature that carries a deep connection with instincts and an appetite for freedom. Bold brush strokes and a rich colour pallet reflect a strong undercurrent of energy that lies deep within the belly. It would be a mistake to underestimate the how quickly a silent wolf can strike. Once curiosity has been triggered, all senses and focus are heightened to extraordinary levels.

I have yet to meet a cat that did not rule their space. They carry an air of dignity and sophistication. 10" x 20" acrylic on canvas $400
Flamingos are filter feeders and turn their heads upside down to eat. The vibrant pink hue of the feathers are a result of the pigment of algae and brine shrimp food they ingest. They mate for life symbolizing love and devotion. Parents naturally lose the colouring while raising their young. It is such an intensive process where food and energy goes to their chicks. The backward bending knee isn’t a knee at all, it’s actually its ankle. The knee is much higher and hidden underneath the feathers. A group of flamingos are called a flamboyance. Why do people love flamingos? Perhaps it is that they are unique, exotic, flamboyantly pink with a unique posture. They are fashionably pink.

When I think far north – I think polar bears . Built for these conditions, they are considered the largest bear in the world and the Arctics top predator. These sea bears are a powerful symbol of strength and endurance. They are talented swimmers, using large webbed front paws to paddle and the hind legs are held flat like a rudder. Adult polar bears can swim for days and have been seen hundreds of miles from land. Two layers of fur with an abundance of fat prevent almost all heat loss. Their fur isn’t white. Each hair shaft is pigment-free and transparent with a hollow core that scatters and reflects visible light. Beneath all that fur is black skin. The ears and tails are small to prevent heat loss. They can smell prey up to 32km away and 1km below snow or ice.
Polar bears evolved from brown bears. Genetic testing has confirmed the existence of polar bear-grizzly bear hybrids known as “Grolar Bear” or “Pizzly Bear”.

What I love about bears is that there is a consistent aura that embraces the “Cranky Pants” mood that I can relate to. I can see it in their face – I can feel it in their voice.

The visual series of contrasts of the moment beg attention and provide all those lovely design elements for a striking painting. I walk away with a reminder not to judge a book by it’s cover.

Sunflowers have the ability to turn their head towards the sun. In Greek mythology explains that the nymph Clytie loves Apollo. His love for her was short lived and fell for another nymph –Leucothoe. Out of jealous and rage, Clytie told Leucothoe's father and as punishment he buried her alive. To avenge her, Apollo turned Clytie into a sunflower. She still loved Apollo and spend her days watching him as he, in his chariot, moved the sun across the sky.

The playful use of a pastel colour palette in the Softer Side of Stiletto contradicts the strong, dynamic, defining lines displayed by the stiletto – so deservedly named after the stiletto dagger. The shoe itself is a work of art; where desire overrules practicality. It is a designer fashion statement that accents the entire body, perhaps reflecting an aspiration to reach new heights. Like a string of pearls; the stiletto will continue to stand the test of time. Simply – a stunning shoe regardless of the colour.

This painting would not be complete without the contrasting illustration of the moth.
